What Would You Tell A Younger Woman??
Me: at age 28 [2015]
Hello, hello there! I hope that you and yours are well, Staying safe, and taking good care of one another! We’ve been primarily here at home for 3 months now, and everything has been surprisingly smooth!
[PRAISE GOD 🤣]
Earlier this week, one of my little cousins posted a question online, and it certainly sparked my interest.
Here was the question:
There were many great responses from many ladies.
I started with one suggestion, but as I typed, the one piece of advice turned into a list filled with love & insight.
My 20s were a decade of exciting times, heart-breaking times, split-second decisions, and strategy. Often, I felt that I had a plan, and other times, I had no idea what I was doing [I’ve learned to embrace the later here in my 30s.😂😂].
But one thing about it: I ENJOYED MY 20s. They were pretty epic. Lol.
Below are 10 words of wisdom I give to a girl in her early 20s
HAVE SOMETHING TO CALL YOUR OWN.
Buy a house,
bc it’s easier than you think.
2. TRAVEL.
And don’t be afraid to travel internationally alone. You’ll learn so much about God and yourself.
4. SAVE SOMETHING [MONETARILY] EVERYDAY.
Find a hobby that’ll cut down on your expenses.
Even if it’s just $10/week, it’s something. And by the end of the year, that little $10 has grown to $520.
3. INDULGE
Go to the nice restaurants, treat yourself here and there to luxury.
If you’ve worked hard, you deserve it.
5. HAVE FUN.
Everyday is an adventure.
6. DON’T RUSH TO HAVE CHILDREN.
Don’t believe the hype. I love my daughter w/ EVERYTHING IN ME, but I miss sleeping til 2pm on wkends
[I also had her when I was 30, so that helps].
7. NEVER BE AFRAID TO SAY “NO”.
If you don’t want to do something, stand on that.
Everyone else will either deal or adjust.
8. GET ALL OF YOUR EDUCATION NOW.
Get all of your schooling out of the way before having children.
You’ll need the undivided time for both, when relevant.
9. FORGIVE YOURSELF.
Once the page is turned, don’t go back to read it- you already know what’s there.
10. SLOW DOWN
The best part about the journey is the ride!
Take time to feel the wind hit your face.
Welp, there it is!
Of course, this isn’t an exhaustive list, but I feel it’s certainly some good gems to carry along the way!
What are some tidbits of insight that you’d share with a woman in her 20s?
