My Binge-Worthy Summer Watchlist!

Hello hello, friends!!

So happy to have you here, joining me on this lovely day!

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been [responsibly] spending LOADS of time at home!  I’ve been using this time to create fun meals, spend quality time with my fam, and BINGE WATCH some amazing shows!!

Now, I’ve been home since March.  That’s 4 months.  You’d think that things would be getting a little dicey on the home front.  Surprisingly, it’s not. 😂

I’ve CERTAINLY been enjoying my alone time [🙌🏾], and one of those reasons being that I can finally INDULGE in some grade-A streaming films!

Some of the shows/movies have been so entertaining, that I’ve been texting friends, encouraging them to watch them, as well!

Now, I can’t be dishing all of these refs without sharing them with you all!

So, without further ado, here are my top binge-worthy picks that should keep you occupied & entertained through the next month or so!

THE POLITICIAN [Netflix]

This is my current binge film of choice.  First- can we talk about the FASHION on this show?!?!?  OMG, I’m totally in love with looks on this show!!😱😍😱😍

If you’re into quick-witted, dry comedies [my personal jam], with progressive messages and grandiose backstories, this is the show for you!  Luckily, there are 2 seasons currently streaming, so you’ll be able to go back for seconds!

BLOOD & WATER [Netflix]

This is such a good show.  Taking place in South Africa, a teen girl goes great lengths to try to figure out if a peer is actually her long-lost sister.

It took me a couple of episodes to really commit to the show, but once I did, I was hooked!  Blood & Water has gotten the green light for a season 2, and I’m so ready for it!

FOUR MORE SHOTS PLEASE!

[Prime Video]

Although some shows on [Amazon] Prime Video can be hit-or-miss, this show is certainly a HIT!  If you love rom-coms of 4 single ladies living in a big city, navigating through life, love, and career, you’ll love this show!

The writing is honestly amazing, and with 2 seasons in place, you’ll be glued for hours!

GREENLEAF [Netflix]

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if “Nip/Tuck”, “Love & Hip-Hop”, and a Presidential Debate had a child??

No?

Oh, ok.

Well, me, neither, but this show packs ALLLL the drama!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

This show chronicles the the Pastoral GREENLEAF family, and the triumphs, failures, and politics that come along with running a church while being human and still living life.  The FINAL SEASON [😩] is currently running on OWN, but play catchup via Netflix.  This is one of my favorite shows, so I’m EXTREMELY sad to see it go!

HOLLYWOOD [Netflix]

Now, I didn’t initially think that it’d be into this show, because I thought it’d be high-drama, which I’m not really into.  I’m SO glad that I was pleasantly mistaken!  Hollywood sheds light on the entertainment industry from the time period of the 1920s. 
It explores the beginnings of motion films and Black people writing and playing leading roles in the biggest film of the year.  Albeit a bit utopian, the show is quick-witted, and that’s my kinda my thing!

TIGER KING [Netflix]

Now, let me tell you:  I am not an “animal lover”.  And to be honest, I literally had to hide my face serial times during the first couple episodes [i have an extra fear of slitheries].  BUT DONT LET THAT STOP YOU!!! Yes, there are wild animals involved, but this show is about MUCH MORE: murder, deceit, money laundering, love, and politics! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

There aren’t really any words to truly describe this hullabaloo of a film.  

JUST. WATCH. IT.

UNORTHODOX [Netflix]

Now, I will be honest- this drama started out VERY slow for me.  But I saw that it was listed as a popular show, so I gave it an honest try.

And I’m glad that I did.

This film dives into the Williamsburg Orthodox Jewish community, and gives a pretty authentic experience.  I’m always humbled and amazed when I immerse myself into the subcultures of the U.S., and being a Womanist, I’m ALWAYS for a woman denouncing systematic hegemony, and doing their own thing.
